Overall, my experience with the smart meter has been good. There are times, however, when the electric company can not read the meter at the designated time. When this happens, they make a best guess of the energy usage. I think Jennifer Stahl has unsubstantiated fears.

A "smart" meter allows power usage to be recorded every day and at any time. After I was forced to accept one, my home voluntarily went on a time of use plan. So far, my monthly average bill has dropped over $100 per month.
