$100K Karma Hybrid Reportedly ‘Bursts Into Flames’ in CA Parking Lot

The Blaze -- In yet another example of a federally funded “green energy” failure, Fisker has confirmed that its Karma hybrid “burst into flames” in a California parking lot last Friday, in the words of Reuters.

The car was not charging at the time, and Fisker said the fire was not caused by problems with the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery pack, new technology components or exhaust routing.

A Fisker Karma driver from Woodside, California parked his hybrid at the grocery store… and after grabbing the items he needed, returned to the parking lot to find that his vehicle was on fire.

He called the manufacturer immediately, who then told him to call 911. The Woodside Fire Department arrived to put out the fire, saying there was considerable damage to the front left area of the car.

Worth repeating:
Martinman
Auto fires are a daily occurrence in most large cities. Walk into any junkyard and you will find many vehicles there as a result of underhood fires - all of them gasoline-powered cars.

Had the individual that posted this for its politically-motivated trolling value, actually READ the article, s/he would have read:

"..., A123 Systems said that a poorly positioned hose clamp could potentially be the cause of such issues...."

There are numerous non-hybrid (i.e. gasoline) vehicle recalls due to poor placement of harnesses, hoses, hose clamps, etc., where road vibration causing damage to electrical harnesses, fuel lines, the battery, etc. - can result in vehicle fires if they go undetected.

Amazing how many jump on every little opportunity to try to bash, discredit, defame something, solely on political grounds, as a result of their political ideology...

Hope it wasn't assembly sabotage caused by an employee who remained after the first were layed off.

The ding-dong owner has waaaaaay more money than brains. Would you call your auto manufacturer or local car dealer if your car was on fire? Or would you call the fire department first? (9-1-1)

Interesting incident. Of course the Karma Hybrid is not the only auto in the world which can catch on fire. Any auto or anything else can catch on fire.

"Called Fisker first.... then advised to call 911..???

Goes to show that buyers that have more money than brains are the target market for this vehicle!!!"

Makes me wonder if it actually happened the way the idiot "driver" reported it... or set the blaze himself.

On the other hand, several years ago, a co-worker found his American-made pick-up truck on fire in his own driveway. The truck was not brand new, it was a manufacturing defect- just a ticking time-bomb.
