Boaters watch gas prices, but they’re still out on the water

The Morning Sun -- It wouldn’t be summer for Chad and Amanda Dutcher if they didn’t go boating.

But the Sherman Township residents are feeling the impact of gasoline prices.
David Pease, an Eaton County resident who owns a summer house on Coldwater Lake, just put his pontoon in the water a few days ago.
Pease was working on the boat after putting it in the water and tying it up on his dock.
While Pease had been to his summer house a few times this year, he isn’t going there as much because of the cost of gasoline.
Pease, who said gas prices are slowing everyone down, pays about $50 for fuel to go to his summer house and return to Eaton County.
“You don’t make as many trips, and you stay longer,” Pease said.
Living just outside the village of Lake Isabella, the Dutchers have been avid boaters for years, but

They got a "Summer House and a boat and a private dock." And they can't afford gas.... Sell the damn summer house and the private dock and the damn boat. Then maybe you will be able to buy gas to drive to the club or the golf field. We can't afford gas to drive to work or the store or the hospital when we are dieing from starvation. My heart bleeds for these suckers.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Hi fuel prices hurt all of us. Boaters are part of that hurting. And that has a ripple effect as does every choice made because of exorbitant prices.

The pleasure boats that normally populate the waterways were mostly sitting idle. Not the way I remember it over the past 45 years. Boaters may be around but not like they were.

Over 1 million people lost power in DC area in Fridays storm. 1.3 million in Maryland. more in ILL,IN,OH,WV, VA, South NJ.

And also, like Pease in the article, a lot of cottages are empty for a lot longer too.
