Plunge In CO2 Output Due To Natural Gas Fracking

Investor's Business Daily -- The most underreported recent environmental story has been the dramatic decline in energy-related carbon emissions — nearly back to mid-1990s levels, and falling.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) June energy report says that energy-related carbon dioxide fell to 5,473 million metric tons (MMT) in 2011.

That's down from a high of 6,020 MMT in 2007, and only a little above 1995's level of 5,314 MMT.

Better yet, emissions in the first quarter of 2012 fell at an even faster rate — down 7.5% from the first quarter of 2011 and 8.5% from the same time in 2010. If the rest of 2012 follows its first-quarter trend, we may see total energy-related carb

I was agreeing with him. You misinterpreted what I stated. "as per the findings, by Martinman, re: IBD editorial section." This means, I agreed with Martinmans post (his findings) that this was from the IBD editorial section and it was originally written by Merill Mathews and the article was submitted by exitramp; (I believe in violation of submitting editorials on gasbuddy) I may stand to be corrected. Findlaw! So what's that got to do with all the tea in china, or in this case posting an article in violation of the gasbuddy terms of use. If articles are being posted in contravention of the rules of gasbuddy, then the member that agreed to those rules by joining, is in contravention of that policy. Enjoy your lunch; If there is global warming, good chance America along with other parts of the world may become a dried out dustbowl. Little arrogant & egocentric with comments like America now produces 75% of the worlds food. Their are many others in the world producing edible food; not much rice comes from America. Russia, China, Australia, Parts of S. America, Canada produce large quantities of grain; other Nations supply the Rice; a worlds staple, like China, India and many others. Warmer temperatures and longer growing seasons mean more food for the world. The U.S. already feeds 3/4 of the world's population in some form or another. If you accomplish your goal of reversing AGW, and the result is cooler temperatures and shorter growing seasons, will you be willing to take responsibility for the millions of deaths from starvation due to the resultant shortage of food? Bring a lunch. The answer will be so long and convoluted, as they attempt to defuse your question and justify their existence, you may not have time to hear it all.

CO2 emissions dropping may not be perfect however it's better then continuing to climb. Its fare to say that once we realize things are too bad, then maybe it will be to late to change it. However we must try to limit the pollution if not end it. Natural gas is great for heating our homes, particularly in areas away from the equator and the tropics of Capricorn/Cancer. However the ever expanding use of fracking to squeeze even more natural gas out of existing wells, some marginal, should stop as the methane pollution produced and possible risk to potable ground water is too much of a risk. Use natural gas but don't frack for it. The polar regions of the world are melting at a increasing rate, there are reasons for it and its probably been due to the industry of the last hundred years or so, heating the planet. Just today a large part of the Greenland ice field broke away (twice the size of Manhattan) and now is a floating iceberg. The following article is from 2008; still applicable for today. Would like to add, its not just the pollution of the ocean but pollution of the atmosphere; globally around the world, land, sea, and air. Some can stick their heads in the hot sand, stating rhetoric that there is no problem. Yes, it nice to have gas to drive around, however its more important, that we all can live on this small planet, a planet, that sustains all of us, for now, as, our planet fly's around in the cold, black, abyss of space! Carbon in the atmosphere is measured in parts per million. We are past the point where any decrease in emission is not enough to counter what we have already done. We are now at the point where we need to stop all emissions!!!

But why let the truth get in the way of a good crisis? I suppose the sky is not falling after all. Lost in all the noise and FUD is also the fact that the same companies that are using hydraulic fracturing to get the natural gas out of the ground are pumping CO2 into the empty wells, where it can remain stored forever, instead of released into the air where it can do more damage. But don't let the truth get in the way of a good story, and go ahead and claim that the sky is falling and global warming is killing us just because the midwest and eastern states had a few weeks of hotter than normal weather. I suppose if those same states have a few weeks of colder than normal weather the same environmentalists will be claiming that we are experiencing global cooling??

Natural gas is readily available without using the fracking process and other methods may not be quite as fast but are much more environmentally friendly.
